About us

Hi, we're the desperate ones.

Our fenced pasture in Georgia on a sunny morning
The pasture, the fence, and a whole lot of potential.

We're two late-start homesteaders who just bought our own little slice of heaven in Georgia. We have no experience and a small budget, and we're taking you along as we turn our pocket-sized pasture and quaint farmhouse into a beautiful, usable space.

Most homesteading advice is written for people in their twenties with a ten-year plan. We are not those people. We started later in life, we have less time to get it right, and we do most things on a whim. If a plan exists, we usually find out about it after we've already started.

Here's where things stand. We have the home. We have the stead, which is fenced and waiting. We're making small improvements to the house and the pasture while we save for a barn and a chicken coop. Someday that pasture will have goats, a donkey, and chickens, and there will be a garden out back. Today it has grass and good intentions.

What you'll find here

  • Beginner homestead plans, from barns and coops to the tools that save your back
  • Easy DIY projects for people with more enthusiasm than skill
  • Budget farmhouse decor and organization ideas, mostly under $50
  • Honest updates on what worked, what didn't, and what we'd do differently

Our promise

We only share things we use, are planning to buy, or would recommend to a friend. When something is on our wish list rather than in our house, we'll say so. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which help pay for the barn fund. You can read more in our affiliate disclosure.

Say hello

Questions, tips, or a good laugh at our expense are always welcome at hello@desperatemeasureshome.com. You can also follow along on Pinterest.

If we can do it, so can you.
