Fall is our favorite season on the property. The heat finally breaks, the light turns gold over the pasture, and the house starts begging for pumpkins. The good news is that fall decor is one of the easiest seasons to do on a small budget.
Faux pumpkins you buy once
Real pumpkins are great, but they don't last, and in Georgia humidity they can turn fast. A set of faux pumpkins in cream, rust, and sage can be used year after year. Group them in odd numbers on a mantel, a tray, or the porch steps.
A fall wreath
A wreath on the front door is the first thing guests see. Look for one with neutral leaves and wheat so it works from September through Thanksgiving.
A plaid throw
Drape a plaid or knit throw over the back of the couch or a chair. It adds warm color and you'll actually use it on cool evenings.
Rustic lanterns and candles
A lantern with a candle inside, real or flameless, adds that cozy glow. Flameless candles on timers are a lifesaver for forgetful people. Ask us how we know.
Free decor from outside
If you live on any land at all, look around. Pine cones, branches with turning leaves, dried grasses, and acorns cost nothing. A mason jar of branches is as farmhouse as it gets.
The budget rule
Pick one spot to decorate fully, like the mantel or entry table, and do small touches everywhere else. A single beautiful spot looks better than a little bit of everything everywhere. Most of these pieces can be found for under $30 each.
